The genres in this show are: crime drama, gangster, and superhero. The genre crime drama most of the time explores the background and story of the antagonist to try to get the audience to understand the antagonists motives and why they do what they do, which they spend nearly a whole episode to get the viewer to understand the Penguin’s actions by focusing mainly on how he grew up. There is genre hybridity, and it is successful, as the show has a rating of 9.7. Hybridity attracts different audiences because you don’t have to like superheroes to enjoy watching this show. The expectations of this show were very high as the movie this spinoff comes from, “The Batman”, was considered one of if not the best batman movie. The premise of the plot is entwined with the story of the Batman movie. One of the main characters, Victor Aguilar, is affected by an event that occurred in the movie.
